Campaigners against fluoride believe that adding fluoride to the water supply is tantamount to poisoning and are lobbying for fluoridation to be stopped all over Canada. Opponents of fluoride claim the chemical is illegal, unnecessary and dangerous; campaigners believe fluoride contributes to health conditions, including increased risk of cancer, thyroid disease and arthritis.

Dogs Trained To Sniff Out Lung Cancer
Dogs can be trained to identify the scent of lung cancer long before symptoms develop, say researchers. The uncanny canine ability to detect smells that escape the human nose could be used for the early detection of lung cancer, according to new study. The dogs were trained to sniff volatile organic compounds trapped in a test tube but would have trouble walking into a room to sniff out a person.
Anti-Aging Market Ripe For Scams
"If someone is promising you today that you can slow, stop or reverse aging, they're likely trying hard to separate you from your money," said S. Jay Olshansky, a professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago's School of Public Health who has written extensively about aging.
"It's always the same message: `Aging is your fault and we've got the cure,'" Olshansky said. "Invest in yourself, in the simple things we know work. Get a good pair of running or walking shoes and a health club membership, and eat more fruits and vegetables."
Chinese Herb Shortens Flu Fever
A controlled trial has found that Chinese herbal medicine decoction maxingshigan-yinqiaosan has a similar efficacy to the antiviral Tamiflu (oseltamivir) in reducing time to fever resolution in people suffering mild H1N1 influenza virus infections. Americans cannot go to their local store and pull maxingshigan-yinqiaosan off the shelf because one of the ingredients, ephedra (ma huang), is banned in supplements. They would need to go to a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who can properly mix the right herbs.
Sunflowers Soak Up Fukushima's Radiation Fears
Sunflowers were used near Chernobyl after the 1986 nuclear accident there to extract radioactive cesium from contaminated ponds nearby. Japanese scientists are also carrying out tests to prove their usefulness in fighting radiation.
Testosterone's Link To Early Death Questioned
Drooping testosterone levels probably don't cut years off a man's life, although earlier studies had suggested they might. Not all research shows men with low testosterone die before their peers with higher hormone levels. Testosterone levels dwindle with age and fluctuate between countries, races and individuals -- even from one hour to the next. Low testosterone levels did not seem to be associated with early deaths in younger men.
There isn't any solid research to prove that dips in testosterone will necessarily cause early death or things like grumpiness, lack of energy and decreased libido -- or that testosterone therapy will fix them.
