Unexplained Wonders Attract Alien Theories

sacsayhuaman_zed.jpg
These are some mind-bogglingly amazing structures on Earth that we have no clue how they were made by ancient men.  The photo on the left is Puma Punku in Bolivia and we don't know why or how." It's a megalithic structure atop a 13,000 ft plateau with massive blocks fitting together like Legos -- again, without mortar. The age is estimated conservatively at about 2000 years old, but many people believe they are much older, with some guesses as early as 14,000 years old. The heaviest of these stones is 450 tons -- roughly the same weight as seven M-1 Abrams tanks. What makes this even more amazing is that many of these blocks were cut from diorite, an insanely hard rock that was used in ancient times to cut other rocks. The grooves in the diorite are machine-made, some as small as a centimeter deep with only 1 mm variation. And all these blocks are cut like this. Even today's engineers are daunted by this task, and then carting them up a 13,000 ft mountain?

Indian Man Desperate To Get His Wife Pregnant Cuts Off Tongue
Mukesh Kumar's inability to procreate so angered him that he cut off his tongue as a sacrifice to Hindu God Lord Shiva. Apparently, Mukesh hoped that his ‘sacrificial tongue’ would inspire Lord Shiva to offer him a child.

FDA Orders Listerene To Stop Deceptive Advertising
The Federal Drug Administration has found Johnson & Johnson guilty of calling their Listerene Total Care Anticavity Mouthwash a drug since they state their advertising label claims to "Fights Unsightly Plaque Above the Gum Line" and "Prevents Cavities." These claims make Listerine Total Care Anticavity Mouthwash a drug as defined in section 201(g) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (Act) (21 U.S.C. § 321(g)) because the product is intended for use in preventing or mitigating disease, or to affect the structure or function of the body, by preventing cavities and removing plaque.

Maybe Johnson & Johnson should rinse themselves with their own Listerene product and follow the advice of U.S. researchers who say the need to clean a "lying mouth" or "dirty" hands is a real one. According to the journal Psychological Science study findings showed that those who lied on the phone -- leaving an untrue and malevolent voicemail -- felt a stronger desire for mouthwash and were willing to pay more for it than those who lied via e-mail. However, those who lied on e-mail more highly valued hand sanitizer.

Recent studies have demonstrated that a carbohydrate (CHO) mouth rinse can lead to improved performance of cyclists, and this may be associated with the activation of brain areas linked to motivation and reward. These findings have already been replicated in other endurance modalities, such as running. This alternative seems to be an attractive nutritional tool to improve endurance exercise performance exerting a possible stimulatory effect on the central nervous system.

In simple terms, the mouth has sensory nerve endings that connect to the brain and when the nerves are stimulated with a sugar rinse (swallowing not necessary) the nervous system is stimulated leading to increased exercise performance.

In 2012, Ramadan will start on 21 July - a week before the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London - and cover the entire Olympic period. Muslim athletes are allowed to defer their fasts until a later date, but many are expected to honour the religious period and fast during daylight hours throughout the games.

Several studies have suggested that merely rinsing the mouth with a carbohydrate drink every 7.5 minutes improves performance in cycling time trials. Rather than providing calories, the carbohydrate seems to act on mouth receptors that activate areas of the brain involved in motivation and reward during exercise (Nutrition Journal, DOI: 10.1186/1475-2891-9-33). Many Muslims believe it is OK to rinse the mouth with water or mouthwash during Ramadan, as long as they don't swallow

Dentists are concerned that frequent rinsing with an acid sugar energy liquid would raise the risk associated with tooth cavity formation. It would be wise, as a preventive measure, to remineralize the tooth enamel with a fluoride gel or paste post workout/race event.

New Hearing Aid That Attaches To Your Tooth
Damage to hearing caused by high volume is determined by its duration. Continuous listening to an MP3 player, even at a seemingly reasonable level, can damage the delicate hair cells in the inner ear that transmit sound impulses to the brain. The new hearing aid sends audio to the inner ear cochlea by mildly vibrating the teeth and jaw bone. Once it is in the mouth, the hearing aid is almost imperceptible.

Millions of iPod owners probably listen forseveral hours a day placing a large noise burden on their hearing even if they turn it down when not cutting grass or riding loud subway trains. European nations capped the sound level of iPods but web sites started providing detailed instructions on how to override that limit. Research shows that 16% of 6- to 19-year-olds have early signs of hearing loss at the range most readily damaged by loud sounds.

More than 17,000 (3.5%) eighth graders drop out in California. It’s possible that these drop out rates could be even higher. Different ethnic groups also show “steep gaps” in graduate rates in California, with graduation rate for Latinos 68 percent, 59 percent for African American students and 56 percent for students who are learning English. For white students, the graduation rate is 83.4 for whites; for Asian students, 89.4 percent.

There is pressure in some families to earn money rather than stay in school. The point must be made, however, that higher rates of education are closely correlated with higher lifetime earnings and an eight grade education just isn’t going to get one too far.

Mother's Gum Disease Linked To Infant's Death
For the first time scientists have linked bacteria from a mother’s gums to an infection in a baby that was full-term but stillborn. Bacteria from the mouth can easily get into the bloodstream once a woman's gums are bleeding. Generally, bacteria can be easily combated by the immune system of the mom-to-be but because of special conditions that exist in the womb, the fetus can be more susceptible.

This is just one case and most pregnant women who have bleeding gums don’t have dead babies. This can happen, but it’s rare. It should serve as a reminder that pregnant women with bleeding gums should see a dentist to treat their gingivitis. Gingivitis can increase the risk of preterm birth anywhere from twice to seven times, studies indicate.

9000 Year Old Teeth Drilled In Pakistan
Archeologists have discovered teeth drilled with precision tiny holes in Pakistan dating back at least 9000 years. They assume there was a medical reason with a high level of technical sophistication. It has been found that people from that stone age time period may not have had families living together in the same way as today. The findings from ancient Pakistan is perplexing the scientific world while it's possible traveling dentists from India were making house calls.

Prosthodontist Ansgar Cheng said dentists in Asia are seeing more jaw disorders among its growing middle class because they are eating big-sized Western-style fast food. His theory claims the smaller petite mouths of Chinese can't open wide enough to chomp into a Big Mac. Evolutionists believe it's only a matter of time until the Chinese jaw and facial structure mirrors that of big nosed Ronald McDonald.

Baby Tooth In Man's Ear For 30 Years
A British man who suffered headaches and partial deafness for 30 years said doctors eventually found a tooth lodged in his ear canal. A nurse finally got to the root of the problem and tweezed it out. The headaches disappeared but his deafness did not improve. Next they are considering a dental hygienist to clean tartar from the ear canal and drum. A paint of fluoride varnish will be applied and guaranteed to prevent further tooth decay in the  ear.
