El Paso dentist, Dr. David Rizk, donates time to El Paso needy seniors. Most of the time, Rizk has to donate the cost of his time, supplies and lab costs to get the treatment done. If it were not for the Senior Fund, many of these patients would not see a dentist.

Extreme sports are not likely to increase life expectancy or health.
The growing popularity of extreme sports such as marathon running and Ironman triathlons may be putting competitors at risk of permanent damage to their hearts, researchers have warned. A study by researchers from the University of Melbourne, Australia, of 40 elite athletes training for an endurance event found their hearts changed shape during the race, increasing in size but decreasing in pumping power. There were signs of excessive stretching of heart muscle cells with scarring suggesting the damage was permanent

"Even Frank Sinatra would be hard put to rival Sawicki when it comes to thoughts on lips and all they speak of. What he offers here is a company of quick reflections on lips and smiles and their many moods."-- Kirkus Indie |

Gossip Is Good For Your Psychological Health
Gossip can prove surprisingly beneficial to our health—and friendships. Speaking behind others’ backs can enhance positive emotions and psychological well-being. For example, a chat with a friend about someone else reduces stress by boosting levels of feel-good progesterone in the brain. Sharing negative gossip can also strengthen relationships themselves. Researchers also recently found that strangers connected more meaningfully over negative beliefs than positive ones.
Sitting Makes Your Butt Bigger
Researchers found that the pressure put on areas of the body used for sitting or lying down produces up to 50 per cent more fat in those parts. Researchers found that preadipocyte cells - the precursors to fat cells - turn into fat cells and produce even more fat when subject to prolonged periods of 'mechanical stretching loads' - the kind of weight we put on our body tissues when we sit or lie down.
Happiness Comes With Fewer Choices
Overall, most of us are content with what we’ve got. It didn’t matter whether you earned $10,000 a year more or $10 million a year more: you were still very unlikely to report being any happier than those on $60,000. You know you’re stuck with it, so you end up liking it – or at least dealing with it in a way that means it is not an impediment to your happiness. Contemporary research on happiness confirms an age-old truth: the secret of happiness is low expectations.

1 In 11 People Will Shoplift This Holiday Season
One in every 11 people who walk through the door are likely to walk out with at least one item he or she didn't pay for. Given that retailers are likely to lose $119 billion to shoplifters this year (1.45 percent of total sales), it's not surprising that the loss-prevention folks have studied this problem from every angle. That's how we know only 3 percent of shoplifters are "professionals" who'll fence the goods, and most offenders are amateurs whose crimes are ones of opportunity.
The Top 10 most shoplifted of items during the holidays include:
- Choice cuts of meat like filet mignon.
- Expensive liquors, particularly Jameson Irish Whiskey.
- Electric tools.
- Gadgets, especially Apple products.
- Gillette Mach 4 razor blades.
- Axe brand deodorant and body washes.
- Polo, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger apparel.
- Let's Rock Elmo toys.
- Expensive perfumes and colognes, particularly Chanel No. 5.
- Nike athletic shoes.
Although use of amalgam fillings has dropped 30 percent in the last decade, these fillings are still sitting in hundreds of millions of mouths, and dentists continue to fill some 50 million teeth with amalgam each year — especially in children.
"Mercury-free" dentists never guarantee that removing amalgam will improve health and advise of potential drawbacks: tooth sensitivity, potential future need of a root canal if there's nerve damage in the process, the increased release of mercury vapors during removal and the cost, which can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. They don't typically recommend it for very ill people or those with life-threatening medical conditions.
Dreams That Can Kill
They died in their sleep one by one, thousands of miles from home. Their median age was 33. All but one — 116 of the 117 — were healthy men, immigrants from Southeast Asia. You could count the time most had spent on American soil in just months. At the peak of the deaths in the early 1980s, the death rate from this mysterious problem among the Hmong ethnic group was equivalent to the top five natural causes of death for other American men in their age group.
In a sense, the Hmong were killed by their beliefs in the spirit world, even if the mechanism of their deaths was likely an obscure genetic cardiac arrhythmia that is prevalent in Southeast Asia.
