The Sweet Truth Finally Revealed: Chocolate Studies Too Small And Preliminary

Eighteen chocolate-centered studies -- including investigations of how cocoa might affect blood pressure, heart disease, painful nerve disorders and cancer risk -- were released to the news media recently.

But Beware: Most of the studies have not yet been accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, so those findings are preliminary. Many studies were also small in scope, with relatively few participants. And some were animal studies, and results might not translate to humans.

Your teeth and jaws can be used to unleash your basic instinct for survival but it appears this perpetrator was in a rage of anger, not a life or death threat. Such behavior should not be condoned.

In a bizarre incident a man bit a snake, a cobra, to death in Rahama village under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district. Iman Welli (25), a daily wager, gave it back to the cobra after the reptile bit him while he was working in a sugarcane field on Thursday. Welli who works as a labourer in the fields of Babana Dalei bit the snake 12 times, killing it. He caught it by the head and started biting it. He became furious after the snake bit him. He tore the reptile and chewed bits of its flesh.

"Even Frank Sinatra would be hard put to rival Sawicki when it comes to thoughts on lips and all they speak of. What he offers here is a company of quick reflections on lips and smiles and their many moods."-- Kirkus Indie

Two Cups Of Tea May Help You Get Pregnant
Drinking two or three cups of green tea a day for anyone wishing to get pregnant will be fine. It would be great to say tea is a miracle cure to get pregnant but that is not realistic. There may be other factors. The green tea drinkers tended to be older women and there may be something else in their diet or lifestyle that helped.

Red Heads Fear The Dentist More
Red hair results from variants of a gene that plays a key role in human hair and skin color. The same gene is involved in the production of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. Previous research showed they are more fearful than other groups about visiting the dentist. An American study found that redheads were more anxious about dental treatment and more than twice as likely to avoid it. A second study by the same researchers found that women with red hair needed 19 per cent more painkiller to stop them flinching from unpleasant stimulation than women with dark hair. Redheads experience more pain from a given stimulus and therefore require more anesthesia to alleviate that pain.

Japanese Toothbrush Taking Over The World
The Soladey ionic brush has a light-activated titanium dioxide rod (semiconductor) inside the handle. When exposed to any light source (a fluorescent bathroom light, a plain light bulb or sunlight), the photo-sensitive titanium rod inside the Soladey ionic brush converts light into negatively-charged ions (electrons). The rod releases these ions, which blend with saliva to attract positive (hydrogen) ions from the acid in the dental plaque on your teeth. The acid is then neutralized and plaque is disintegrated – a scientific approach to a cleaner and healthier mouth! Toothpaste is not required as water (saliva) is the acting ingredient – oral hygiene now becomes not only natural, but also economical! For those who find it hard to give up toothpaste, use very small amounts!

Raisins And Soy Help Lower Blood Pressure
Munching on a handful of raisins three times a day helped people with slightly elevated blood pressure lower their numbers after several weeks. Raisins are packed with potassium, which is known to lower blood pressure. They are also a good source of antioxidant dietary fiber that may favorably alter the biochemistry of blood vessels, causing them to be less stiff, which in turn, may reduce blood pressure.

Soy and the isoflavones it contains work by boosting enzymes that create nitric oxide, which in turns helps to widen blood vessels and reduce blood pressure.

Dental Plaque Bacteria Can Cause Blood Clots
Oral bacteria that escape into the bloodstream are able to cause blood clots and trigger life-threatening endocarditis. Further research could lead to new drugs to tackle infective heart disease.

Popcorn Is A Healthy Anti-oxidant?

Athletes: Drinking Too Much Water More Dangerous Than Dehydration

Severe diarrhea, vomiting and increasing confusion caused not from dehydration but from drinking too much fluid, a dangerous but little-recognised condition called exercise-associated hyponatraemia (EAH). Sometimes called water intoxication, EAH is marked by a low blood sodium concentration and can cause the brain to swell, causing confusion, loss of consciousness and seizures.

Most marathon runners would be advised on the need to avoid dehydration, especially if temperatures rise. Dehydration occurs when the body’s normal water content is reduced and its balance of salts and sugar upset. But according to many medical experts, thousands of runners could be risking their health if not their lives by drinking too much rather than too little.

Athletes need to be warned that over-consumption of fluids (whether water or sports drinks) before, during, or after exercise can have a potentially fatal outcome.

French Dentists Shy Away From Mercury Silver Fillings
Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany have banned or restricted use of the fillings. The European commission may soon call for their phasing out. Most people in France are living with mercury fillings, probably without even realizing it. France's 40,000 dentists use it less and less for two reasons: the fuss about mercury has made them cautious, but also for reasons of appearance.

A growing number of French dentists say mothers expecting a baby or breast-feeding, and anyone with kidney problems should avoid mercury fillings.
