Yoga unites the three treasures of Tai Chi -- Beauty, Love, Spirit -- however, joining the upper and lower teeth is the simplest path to understanding.

White Teeth Award
Singer Katy Perry reportedly brushes her teeth six times a day because she is scared of getting fillings. The singer is said to keep 20 new toothbrushes. She won't go anywhere without a stack of brushes.

Too bad she doesn't mention dental floss!

Corruption in Romania's healthcare system rampant and leads to unnecessary deaths.

There is a culture of corruption that is so embedded in Romania that surgeons demand bribes to save infants' lives, and it's even necessary to slip cash to a nurse to get your sheets changed. It's one of the reasons why the country's infant mortality rate is more than double the European Union average, with one in 100 children not reaching their first birthday.

"Even Frank Sinatra would be hard put to rival Sawicki when it comes to thoughts on lips and all they speak of. What he offers here is a company of quick reflections on lips and smiles and their many moods."-- Kirkus Indie
Choose Your Poison -- Live to 100
Science is coming up with some crucial answers to the all-important question: what is the secret of reaching the magic number?

A healthy diet and lifestyle are clearly key, but research at the University of Boston, published earlier this year in the science journal PLoS One, suggests that genetic factors may be more important. While our genes are only thought to influence our chance of living to 85 by about 20 to 30 per cent, the Boston study suggests that they could play a far greater role in our survival chances into the late eighties and beyond.

Colgate Triclosan Toothpaste Bad For Environment

Canada Prepares To Ban Triclosan
Health Canada and Environment Canada are proposing that industry voluntarily cut the amount of triclosan it uses, particularly in personal-care products that tend to get rinsed away into lakes and rivers. A government study has found that a common anti-bacterial agent found in everything from shampoo and toothpaste to toys is harmful to the environment.

Triclosan is used in socks, garden hoses and iPhone cases as a few examples. Apart from its high toxicity to algae, invertebrates, fish and frogs that can be critical to local ecosystems, triclosan can also break down into dioxins and can react with chlorine to make chloroform. Studies in animals have suggested triclosan mimics hormones and interferes with reproduction.

Colgate-Palmolive Co. in recent months has begun removing triclosan from dish detergent amid growing consumer, regulatory and legislative scrutiny of the antibacterial ingredient. But it's still the key active ingredient in Colgate Total Toothpaste, a billion-dollar-plus global brand.

Tai Chi Better Than Strength Training Alone For Seniors
Experienced practitioners of Tai Chi, the traditional Chinese mind-body exercise now enjoyed worldwide, have been shown in a study of older subjects to have improved expansion and contraction of arteries according to cardiac pulsation (arterial compliance) and improved knee muscle strength. The benefits of strength training alone for arterial compliance is elusive.

Caffeine And Exercise Fights Skin Cancer
The combined effects of exercise plus caffeine consumption may be able to ward off skin cancer and also prevent inflammation related to other obesity-linked cancers.

Chew Your Food Thoroughly To Control Blood Sugar
Two individuals may have very different glycemic responses to the same starchy food, depending on their amylase levels. Individuals with high amylase levels are better adapted to eat starches, as they rapidly digest the starch while maintaining balanced blood glucose levels. The opposite is true for those with low amylase levels. As such, people may want to take their amylase levels into account if they are paying attention to the glycemic index of the foods they are eating and chew their food completely into a liquid form in order to take full use of the amylase they produce.

Exercise Turns On Healthy Stress Response
The better your body is at handling stress, the easier it is to act decisively when you're under pressure, whether you're dodging a car, dealing with a heavy courseload, or staring down deadlines at work. The greatest benefit of all, however, is that by exercising, you're actually training your body to respond to stress in a more appropriate and timely manner.

Toddlers Suffer Growing Tooth Decay
No 3-year-old should need tooth extractions, root canals, or crowns. This type of dental work usually requires an anesthetic in children so young because it is time consuming and painful and toddlers are not known for their patience or ability to sit still. To be effective and clean up the entire mess at once, an operating room procedure is usually considered the most efficient option.

But that is hardly without risks. Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of anesthesia, and though much less likely, there is the risk of brain damage or death. Kids often experience pain after oral surgery, and there's a chance of infection. Costs, too, are an issue, especially with so many families lacking dental insurance. The price tag for a dental procedure with general anesthesia can be thousands of dollars, depending on the extent of work that needs to be done.

Pep Up Your Immune System
Some people seem to catch everything that is doing the rounds, from coughs and colds to stomach bugs. Other people never seem to get ill. What's their secret?

Frequent Dental X-rays Linked To Brain Tumor
People who received frequent dental x-rays in the past have an increased risk of developing the most commonly diagnosed primary brain tumor in the United States. Over a lifetime, patients with meningioma were more than twice as likely as controls to report having ever had a bitewing exam, which uses an x-ray film held in place by a tab between the teeth. Individuals who reported receiving bitewing exams on a yearly or more frequent basis were 1.4 to 1.9 times as likely to develop meningioma as controls. (Risks differed depending on the age at which the exams were done).

An increased risk of meningioma was also linked with panorex exams (which are taken outside of the mouth and show all of the teeth on one film) taken at a young age or on a yearly or more frequent basis. Individuals who reported receiving these exams when they were younger than 10 years old had a 4.9 times increased risk of developing meningioma. Those who reported receiving them on a yearly or more frequent basis were 2.7 to 3.0 times (depending on age) as likely to develop meningioma as controls.

The British Dental Association said that dental x-rays are used more in the US than in the UK and it wouldn’t be normal for someone with healthy diet and healthy mouth to have regular X-rays.

Research found having a 'bitewing' X-ray at least once a year raised the odds of developing a brain tumour by between 40 and 90 per cent depending on age. Picture posed by model
